We are delighted to invite you to the 2012 URSULINE YOUTH CONFERENCE, which will be held in Tatuí, Brazil, from September 3rd to 7th.
This initiative aims to continue the project “Fraternity and life on the planet” which was started on the occasion of the Ursuline Global Conference in Brazil. For this youth meeting, we established “SOS PLANET EARTH” as the theme. Besides promoting cultural exchange among the Ursuline students, our mission is to foment discussions on the environmental issues which have been devastating our planet. In the words of Leornado Boff, “The universe is the echo of our actions and thoughts. If I act with kindness, I will get kindness back. If I act with wickedness, I will get wickedness back.”
We are meant, as Ursuline educators, to develop citizens able to spread peace and Saint Angela’s charisma worldwide. “Act, move, believe, make an effort, wait, cry to God from deep inside your heart, because you will see God’s wonders unquestionably” exclaims Angela!
We count on your presence at our conference!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE MEETING
How should we prepare students ?
When the students register for the UYC, they must be given a “task” to be carried out locally before our conference. This task consists of developing an environmental project in their local area. They may work, for example, depolluting or reforesting a devastated area. It is important to encourage them to work on something in which they will be continually involved, even after the meeting in Brazil. Our intention is to make them conscious that, once they take part in the UYC project, they are not only attending a meeting but are also responsible for a cause – the sustainability of the planet.
At the meeting, each school will be allowed 10 minutes for presenting the results of their local projects. There will be multimedia resources available if the students want to show videos or photos. As English is the official language of the UYC, all videos must be subtitled.
Where exactly will the conference be held?
Tatui City is located 200 kilometers from São Paulo. The conference will take place in a site designed with students in mind, a place which meets the pedagogical needs of educational institutions. “Carroção site”, as the place is named, was ranked by the Discovery Channel as the best pedagogical destination in Latin-America.
You may check it on YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhLUjSnFMvQ
This place is the best alternative in Brazil to host our conference. There is a great housing structure as well as support of a professional camp staff. In addition, students can be in contact with nature safely, under conference crew supervision.
The accommodations are pretty similar to the ones offered by regular retreat camps. Students will be placed together, sharing a dorm with single beds. The groups coming from the same countries will be kept together in the dorms.
Our staff will give the participants all the support needed during their stay in Brazil – from arrival at the airport to departure on September 7th. As the arrivals from different countries may require particular needs, we will be glad to help with any further details about your travel. We want to give you personal assistance to make it as easy as possible to attend our meeting. You can contact the organization committee by the e-mail addresses and telephone numbers available at the end of this letter.
Brazilian visa process, especially for minors, may require a lot of paperwork. We recommend you to be aware of the requirements for traveling from your country or area. Start planning your trip as soon as possible!
